What is really the truth about the origins of christianity. I am a spiritual person and have read the bible many times. When I do, i get frustrated because I want to please God, but some of the things that were written to me are contradicting such as; an eye for an eye, an tooth for a tooth, or do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. the first passage works but you get sent to jail if you kill someone in self defense. The second one to me is irrelevant because that is not the way the world works. I have done all I can for people and I am always the one holding the short end of the stick. So did Jesus. It seems to me regardless whether you are good or bad, you receive punishment regardless. I can say this because I have been on both side of the fence. That is my confusion of how I should really act. True it is that the bible has been rewritten plenty of times and as we know, if you start a phrase within a group, by the time the phrase come back around, you will only get some of the true information. I've gotten to the point that I don't read the bible anymore or go to church because I see church as just another business to run. Most people are only for themselves. The church didn't give Jesus a house. He didn;t need it. I refuse to go to hell because of the pope or anyone else, therefore, I have a close relationship with God outside the church. It's a lot safer. If anyone can help me, respond. I can take good and bad criticism because the only way to find answers is to keep it real.
