Highway Patrol

Hulu claims that Highway Patrol came before Dragnet.

This is not true. The Dragnet radio show premiered in 1949, the TV show in 1951. Highway Patrol didn't come along until 1955, no doubt influenced by the success of Dragnet.

Nothing against Highway Patrol, I love it and am really glad Hulu has it, but the facts are the facts.

I love this show can wait to see season 2

Oh yeah, its a blast watching all the bloopers. Camera crew reflections on shiny car doors and plate glass storefronts! Dan Mathews rushing to get in his car and the door is locked, he has to reach in the open window and pull up on the knob on top of the door. In the episode "Machine Napping", in the helicopter scene, he is talking on the radio and puts the mouthpiece to his ear to listen, haha, what a blast! See 2 other replies

It's like 'Reefer Madness' for the rest of the "crimes".

Of course, all of the old cars and equipment they use are good enough reason alone to watch.

Highway Patrol is crime drama that is the predecessor of Dragnet in many ways. After seeing Highway Patrol on THIS, I was pleased to find it available on Hulu. The episode "Motorcycle" guest stars a very young Clint Eastwood.

The Highway patrol deals with many subjects inducing robbery, theft, hazardous driving, helping find lost and injured motorists, and discrimination.

Broderick Crawford stars as "Chief" Dan Mathews, a no-nonsense by the book law officer who has a strong morale for what is right and just.

I've long loved classic crime and drama (Dragnet, Adam-12, Perry Mason, and Ironside) but had never seen Highway Patrol until our local THIS station started airing them at 5:00am. Thanks to my dvr I have discovered this program and really enjoy it. Broderick Crawford was a fine actor and plays this part very well. I hope we can get this on dvd soon.
