While browsing through Hulu, you may have noticed a change in availability to some shows on ABC, ABC News and ABC Family. Access to shows from these networks changes as follows:
* For ABC, the ability to watch the most recently aired episode of an ABC show the day after broadcast is available to 1) Hulu.com viewers on their computer who sign in with a participating TV provider subscription or 2) Hulu Plus subscribers for select ABC programming. Some shows will be available the day of broadcast to both Hulu Plus subscribers and users who sign in with a participating TV provider subscription. Otherwise, recent episodes of ABC shows are available on Hulu.com eight days after they air on broadcast television without signing in. For more detailed show information, please reference the availability notes on a show’s page (for example, hulu.com/the-chew)
* For ABC News content, the ability to watch the most recently aired episodes of an ABC News show within one day of broadcast is available to Hulu.com viewers on their computer who sign in with a participating TV provider subscription. Otherwise, recent episodes of ABC News shows are available on Hulu.com eight days after they air on broadcast television without signing in.
* Certain ABC Family content is available on Hulu.com for Hulu viewers on their computer who have a subscription with a participating TV provider. Once viewers sign in with their TV provider, they will be able to watch full episodes. A variety of shows and past seasons of ABC Family content will be available to Hulu Plus subscribers.
Below you'll find answers to common questions regarding the changes to the availability of ABC, ABC News and ABC Family shows.
Authentication (also referred to as “verification”) is the way viewers confirm they are currently subscribed to a participating TV provider. For example, ABC is currently allowing next-day, on-demand access to most content to viewers who authenticate with a participating TV provider.
A lock icon will appear on episodes that require authentication. Locked episodes are currently available to Hulu.com viewers on their computer who sign in with a participating TV provider subscription. For select ABC programming, you can also unlock episodes by logging into your Hulu Plus account.
If you have a participating TV provider subscription, you can authenticate by visiting hulu.com/authenticate selecting your TV provider through the "Search For Your Provider" section. If you do not have a participating TV provider account to sign in with, episode availability will vary by network. For specific show information (for example, an episode’s availability), you can find more details under the Availability Notes from a show’s main page (for example, hulu.com/scandal).
If you have a participating TV provider subscription, you can connect your account by visiting hulu.com/authenticate
You will also be directed to the authentication page when you click on either the gray key icon on the thumbnails of an authenticated show or the Connect a TV Provider button that appears on all Hulu show pages.
NOTE: If you log out of your Hulu account, you will be required to re-authenticate your account the next time you log in OR after 30 days.
If you do not have a participating TV provider account, you won’t be able to view select content. However, recent episodes of many ABC shows will be available on Hulu after a seven-day delay following broadcast, even if your TV provider is not yet participating. In addition, if you are a Hulu Plus subscriber, you can still view the latest episode of select ABC programming.
To see if your specific pay-TV service is one of the participating providers for ABC, ABC Family and ABC News, please visit (hulu.com/authenticate) to search for your provider. Here you can also connect to your provider to access next-day content for certain shows. If your provider is not on the list, you won't be able to view next-day content through authentication. The list of supported providers will continue to expand, so check back often to see if your TV provider has been added. That said, many episodes will be available for unauthenticated Hulu.com users after a limited delay.
It’s important to note that some supported cable and satellite TV subscriptions do not include the rights to view content from all authentication-enabled networks. Users with these cable and satellite TV subscriptions will not be able to view shows from certain networks, such as ABC, ABC Family and ABC News. At this time, we do not have a way to confirm whether a specific cable subscription is eligible for authentication through Hulu, and we recommend contacting your provider's customer support directly.
If you don’t have a subscription with a participating TV provider, you can still watch episodes of your ABC shows on Hulu.com eight days after they air on television. Hulu Plus subscribers can watch select ABC programming the day after broadcast, or in the case of shows like The View, General Hospital and The Chew – the day of broadcast. You can find details for an episode’s availability right from a show’s main page (for example, hulu.com/revenge).
As always, you can try a free one-week trial of Hulu Plus here.
