I followed this drama as it aired on DF. Since 'You're Beautiful' is one of my favorite dramas of all time, I became a fan of these actors (and for the record, I think the right guy got the girl) and started listening to CNBlue's music. So when I heard JYH was going to play the tough guy role with PSH, I had high expectations for a good show. It started off okay, but after about 4 episodes in, I found myself wondering when the meat of the story was going to rear it's ugly head. After 6 episodes I realized absolutely NOTHING more was going to happen. We learn who likes who and where everyone stands, but there is no conflict or complications to hold your interest. The story literally becomes a day by day account of school kids going to school and interacting with each other.
I'm very much into JYH, but he can't play a bad boy to save his life. He's naturally a good guy so pretending to be a jerk is quite challenging for him (which can be seen the blooper reels). I think PSH did well for what she had to work with. Her singing is the best part of the whole series. The supporting characters, despite their potential, are throw aways. Lots of time it just feels like they're there for the leads to have someone to talk to. It's not their fault given the weak plot.
The producers knew the story was lacking and had to switch writers AND directors while the show was airing in order to save ratings. After several rewrites the story started to pick up a bit by (finally) adding outside conflicts. But this doesn't come until after the half the story is over with and it's much too late by then. This is why they decided to end the show with 15 episodes instead of the usual 16.
Lots of people rate this show high because they're excited 'Shinwoo finally got with Mineyo,' but take that away and you have a slow highschool drama with a paper thin plot. If it weren't for my admiration for the two leads, I'd have dropped this drama half way in. If you're part of the Shinwoo Fan Club, you'll like this drama. But if you're actually looking for something good to watch, this isn't the show.
