I was born and raised in New Orleans, and I went to LSU for undergrad. I was also at the the 2007 Sugar Bowl game vs. Notre Dame. There was fan heckling on both sides before the game, most of it good-natured joking, but there were some fans (mostly drunk) that pushed it too far ON BOTH SIDES. After the game, there were a lot of Notre Dame fans enjoying themselves in the French Quarter with LSU fans, so I guess they didn't feel "treated like war criminals" the way you did. Also, what does GPA have to do with football? That's an excuse people use to try to ignore the fact that their team got beat. Yes it's a university team, and the althletes must meet the university standards for being eligible to play NCAA sports. What concern is it of yours whether these kids focus on school or sports? So what if Jamarcus Russell isn't a good speaker? He's making millions of dollars doing something that he worked hard at and loves to do. Since you want to talk about LSU fans, I'll make some remarks about ND fans. Before the game, I heard a lot of drunk heckling from ND fans. I also heard a group of 5 or 6 ND students making jokes about Hurricane Katrina while walking down the ramp at the dome. Since you live in New Orleans, you can probably understand the gravity of the situation, and appreciate the fact that most of our lives are still affected by the storm. Even people who aren't from here can appreciate that fact. I could have generalized those instances to all of the ND fans, but I know that it's a minority. You also say that in South Bend that you congratulate opponents when you lose, yet you have no problem making generalizations about people and calling them "ignorant rednecks," but I guess that's how you "were brought up." Also, people from Southern Louisiana are Coonasses not Rednecks, you should know better since you live here.
