First of all, I tried to like this. I kept watching hoping the mediocre show would improve after the writers and actors found their stride. It didn't.
Over the years, I've watched my fair share of British comedies. I can probably quote lines from dozens of them right now. And this show has some of the pieces to succeed. For one it has actors from other shows I've quite liked (Spaced, Black Books, Peep Show, Mr. Brittas Empire), but it seems to have taken none of the humor and good writing from these shows.
One major thing lacking is chemistry. Everyone is trying so hard to be their "quirky" character that they aren't building anything believable with the other actors. There's something fundamentally wrong with the character development here. I personally cringe every time Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez's characters come on. They actually irritate me and have not so much as caused a snicker.
One last thing, much of the show's (and your) time is wasted transitioning from one little snippet scene to the next with the same music clip. You get tired of it. Very quickly. Just like this show.
