This is based on the Original Ghostbusters a television series from 1975-1976.
and had nothing to do with Dan Akroyd. Filmation started the cartoon series to ride the movie hype and catch fans off guard citing that they owned the rights to the GB name being the owners of the short lived kids show from the 70's. This also contributed to there only being 2 GB movies for very long time. There are still issues with copyrights resolutions.
