If you are looking for action, robots, eye-candy for either males or females, and the general cookie cutter flashy anime, DO NOT WATCH THIS.
Very good anime for the intellectually inclined.
This anime is akin to "Monster" or "Lain". The power of the anime is not in the quality of its animation, which is truly basic, cheap and forgettable, but on the story it tells. Each episode builds on the later episodes, with the first two being rather bland and disjointed. The pace is slow, dead slow, yet the suspense is carefully nurtured along each and every scene. The ability to mix uncomfortable dialogues to what would otherwise be mundane scenes provides a certain twisted tenseness which draws the viewer back, certain something horrible or momentous is about to happen. Yet, that's the beauty, that climax doesn't come in many episodes, the viewer is left on the apex wondering, wanting, lacking the release of a conclusion, and that conclusion will NOT be forthcoming on the next episode, instead you are drawn further "up" the ladder of mystery.
Existential story; References to real scientific studies; The sound (I'm really choosy on that, being a musician); The characters were not annoyingly super-excited (which is horribly common, I'm sad to say in animes)
I hope this helps someone decide that this show isn't a waste of their time.
