As I understand, Castro preferred to distance the new revolutionary government from the Soviet brand of Marxism-Leninism. He wanted a Cuban-flavored, Marti inspired revolution(even if Raul or Guevara had other ideas). Further, the Soviet Union was not following movements in the Americas very closely during this time. The possibilities that Castro's government provided the Soviets took Kruschev by suprise.
The U.S. was discussing Castro's overthrow in March 1959 and had committed to his overthrow by June of that year.
Trade negotiations with the Eastern Bloc did not begin until Feb. 1960 and formal diplomatic ties were not established with the Soviets until March 1960.
If this info is correct(see: Cuba: A New History, Gott, 2004), this video's statement that "Relations with the US worsen when Mikoyan arrives promising cheap oil..." is much worse than a mistatement of fact-it would appear to be a bald-faced lie.
Cuban history is longer and much more complex than Castro, the missile crisis, or the embargo. This video appears to be worthy ammunition for anyone making a case that the propaganda being fed to US citizens is as bad as anything Castro may be dishing out.
Ain't it great to be "free"?
