Are they free to become millionaires? No. Are they free to have a humane standard of living regardless of the circumstances of their birth or the events of their life? Yes.
The idea is that economic freedom is the root of true, freedom. The kind of freedoms that we are all "endowed with by our creator" have to be formalized. When you put these ideals into constitutions or statutes, that is one step towards acheiving them. But if your economic situation prevents you from being able to excersize your constitutional or statutory rights, then what use are they?
The kind of Marxism that Cuba is attempting to utilize aims to remove the economic barrier to excercizing your rights. The results aren't perfect, Castro would be the first to admit so, but the failures are no more numerous or glaring than the failures that our system has. See 2 other replies
