Angel-trainee, Flonne, mistakenly awakens Laharl, the son of the late Lord Krichevskoy, from his two-year, poison-induced slumber. Disgruntled and hungry, Laharl sets out to claim his place as the new overlord of Netherworld.
Thank you for posting this it helped before i watched it I was told by my little sisster to watch it if you have any recomendations please tell me im running out of options to watch ive finished so many seasons and dif animes and finished them.
Wow, butthurt much? I agree with you completely that the animation is not of the highest caliber but if you're going to rate this show based solely on visuals then I must say you're a little confused as to what makes a good show. Are you going to complain about old Simpsons episodes looking 'aged' next? If so then you're missing the point about shows like these. Do you get angry that books don't have special effects when you open them? I'd love to see you sit through a show with no dialogue and people just going about their day with special effects added in for an hour. See how much you like that! As for me, I'm going to enjoy the wacky antics of Laharl, Flonne, and Etna!
Wow, you seriously need to get your head on strait. This anime is based on the PS2 game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Although they changed the VA's they did an excellent job of capturing the style of the original VA's, including Flonne's extremely high-pitched voice. Oh yeah, the dialog used is very similar to what's in the games, and the games received some very reliable translation work. You think those are simplistic backgrounds? Watch Speed Racer, or any other anime from the 70's and 80's, they have a lot less detail put in, and for what might be missing it's appropriate for the setting it's based in.Also, the color mixtures that you call crap are exactly the same as was used in the game. You complain about repetitive animation, ever played an RPG? The special attacks are repetitive, because they don't normally have the data space for 2 different versions of an attack, let alone the 25+ it'd take to make you happy. As for lacking smooth movement, that's just your internet connection. The movement was looking fine to me, and my cable internet connection tends to dislike me in the evenings (good thing I'm critiquing your review in the morning so I won't have lag problems). Now, for it being meant for a 9-13 range.....are you nuts? The games are rated T (Teen) by the ESRB, that's a minimum age suggestion of 13. The games got that rating for Comic Mischief, Mild Language, and Mild Violence (although, I do admit that the ESRB uses a stricter rating scale than whoever it is that rates TV shows and movies from Hollywood, then again a company normally suggests what they consider the minimum rating to be to the ESRB and they just put it before a panel to approve or deny said rating). In conclusion, all of your problems are with the core setting material and making the effort to mesh with it, not the work put into the series. Next time, before you get all high and mighty trying to shoot something down do a quick background check to make sure it isn't based on something else and just trying to faithfully work with the pre-established setting. Scum like you are what give hard working animators who are doing their best to create an enjoyable show that is honest to (even if the plot differs) another work a bad name. One last food for thought for you, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (on the PS2) was a sleeper title (no advertising) that outsold many advertised games of more popular genres, by dissing the anime (which blends very well with the setting) you are dissing the creators of that game and the fans of the series who have all 4 of them released so far. Nippon Ichi Software (the creators of Disgaea) made so much of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness they were able to open up their own translation studio in the US, not many games manage to pull that kind of sales (Final Fantasy, NES comes to mind, as does most of the rest of that series along side a title like Halo), at least not on an individual basis.
(Putting this on the correct review area) The target audience of this anime is the 9-13 age range, and it shows. SO if you're a kid, go ahead and watch and enjoy. The rest of this review is for adults. The animation is not even third rate, its fourth rate. A lot of the animation is repetitive. A lot of the animation doesn't have enough drawing frames to allow for smooth movement of the characters. I don't like the style of the drawings, though that's just a personal opinion and preference. The dubbing is worst than a joke, its awful. Sometimes the words of the angel are so high pitched they hurt my ears. The color mixtures lack depth. The backgrounds are pretty simple. Notice that all of my problems with the anime are WORK RELATED in nature. They have nothing to do with the story or plot. There was no effort to produce a quality product. 0 stars.
SPOILER ALERT Who'd a thunk that Hell was populated by Valley Penguins?? Just LOVE the Dark Adonis. You'll love a fast paced farce of the Netherworld, Hero's at Large and Evil on the half shell.
i recommend getting the portable versions, as they have extra stuff, like storylines and features (the first game gives you an alternate Etna-centric storyline)
