"...Signals from News Corp. that Hulu will charge for at least some of its films and TV shows.
Chase Carey, News Corp.'s deputy chairman, suggested in comments he made at the OnScreen Media Summit that it's just a matter of time before Hulu, the video service founded by News Corp. and NBC Universal, launches a subscription service."
Nickel and Dime....
If Hulu starts charging subscriptions for its use, I am out. I bet most of Hulu's users will no longer be using Hulu if the additional fee of a subscription is added. This death my be slow and painful, but it is bound to happen. The advantage in Hulu is the short commercials and the ability to see the shows when desired, WITHOUT a subscription. If the amount of commericals drastically increase in length or frequency, I say good bye to Hulu and hello DVR. Users have to pay for cable internet, cable TV (in most cases), and watch Hulu commericials on a computer purchased by them. Adding a subscription to this list of requirements will cause users to go elsewhere and find other means.
The sad thing about this situation is that Hulu cuts down on TV show sharing on the internet; I would even say that this effect is historic. Charging a subscription is going to reverse this effect. The movies on Hulu are pretty bad and that is all I will say about that.
Hulu should get better for the users and more expensive for those that want to advertise on it, NOT more expensive for the users and better for those advertising. The only subscription based Hulu I will live with is one where people who pay do not need to see any commericals. Since I do not mind the short commericals on Hulu, I will be fine.
