Let me just put it this way. We ALL know that there are other places to watch the shows we want to watch online. However, like me, most people people who use hulu probably do so b/c they can still watch it free but at the same time their viewing gets counted and show support for the shows(important with shows lke Dollhouse and Chuck that find themselves on the bubble come renewal time). If I can watch at site where the material is uploaded is 100% legit i will. that said, I refuse to pay for something that I can find elsewhere - especially since most of the shows I watch on hulu are from basic, non-dish/cable/direct tv channels, where I would not be paying anyways.

      The Death of Hulu
      Source
      http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-10381622-261.html
"...Signals from News Corp. that Hulu will charge for at least some of its films and TV shows.
Chase Carey, News Corp.'s deputy chairman, suggested in comments he made at the OnScreen Media Summit that it's just a matter of time before Hulu, the video service founded by News Corp. and NBC Universal, launches a subscription service."
      Nickel and Dime....
If Hulu starts charging subscriptions for its use, I am out. I bet most of Hulu's users will no longer be using Hulu if the additional fee of a subscription is added. This death my be slow and painful, but it is bound to happen. The advantage in Hulu is the short commercials and the ability to see the shows when desired, WITHOUT a subscription. If the amount of commericals drastically increase in length or frequency, I say good bye to Hulu and hello DVR. Users have to pay for cable internet, cable TV (in most cases), and watch Hulu commericials on a computer purchased by them. Adding a subscription to this list of requirements will cause users to go elsewhere and find other means.
The sad thing about this situation is that Hulu cuts down on TV show sharing on the internet; I would even say that this effect is historic. Charging a subscription is going to reverse this effect. The movies on Hulu are pretty bad and that is all I will say about that.
Hulu should get better for the users and more expensive for those that want to advertise on it, NOT more expensive for the users and better for those advertising. The only subscription based Hulu I will live with is one where people who pay do not need to see any commericals. Since I do not mind the short commericals on Hulu, I will be fine.

I will in no way be paying for hulu services like cable. I will no doubt switch to netflix where it is easier to get the shows on my television and the have a bigger catalog of movies and will soon be adding many shows. This actually upsets me because i have been praising hulu for so long and now will be doing the exact opposite if the start sharging. i believe the decision comes from the fact that they recieve more money pre viewer on their t.v. networks and only about .19 cents per veiwer per commercial on hulu. I believe this pay for hulu will be designed to force more people back to standard sat/cable t.v. so that the parent companies of hulu can make more money. I would indeed prefer if they just added more commercials as i will not go back to sat./cable for the very reason that you have to pay for many channels you do not want and only get a few good channels that way in order for you to get all the channels that you desire you must order the largest package. I truly thought hulu was ushering in a new age of television viewing that givin time would move evryone over to watch at their own schedule. but sadly i was mistaken . So as soon as hulu starts charging for services i will start getting my channels other places. and my hulu is on just about all day even in the backrgound will i work so i can hear the shows. So i beg Hulu's Jonathan Miller to reconsider and just add more commercials because after the price i pay for internet at a speed high enough to allow streaming of video i will not add more cost to get basic programming and rather limited programming at that.

The New York Times article related to Hulu charging makes NO MENTION of a "freebee" to remain along side the For-charge site.
I seriously doubt anyone will pay for a site that also runs commercials. If I am expected to pay - I'll just watch on cable a forget Hulu. Pitty, Hulu will loose their customer base at the same time Microsoft is making a push for WEB enabled television viewing.
