I don't think Hollywood cares about people, death & murder, look at the prime time lineup these days.

I think the reason was reason.

Watch the episode "the Fact", it exposes the truth of how the world works today & the political/entertainment complex doesn't like the truth to be exposed. Do you think Dilbert/Dogbert would believe in all the supposed crisis of today as the general publc does?
We've got aa major healthcare crisis, the anecdotes prove it. Grandma couldn't get that hip surgery she needed because of the big bad insurance company.
How 'bout the financial system meltdown, we've just got to bail out those banks or they wont make it & the world will end! It must be true,it was on the news.
And of course Global warming, the evidence is indisputable, Al Gore aid so, so it must be true, don't agree? Talk to the hand.

Most people say this show was canceled because very few people watched it. However, I know that most of the Seinfeld fanbase watched this show. I think the real reason this show was canceled was because not even the characters that were supposed to be empathetic cared when people would die! Don't believe me? Just watch one episode carefully and you'll immediately notice this. Knowing some people who work at the MPAA, I can tell you that the people who rate television and movies do not like to see that sort of thing!
