Description

New York city journalist Wallace Benton has one aim in life: get the story and get it right. No matter what the cost. This mentality wreaks havoc on his personal life, but makes for great reporting. A crumbling marriage, alcoholic tendencies and involving his journalism students in devious plans to gain info about a story are just a few of the ways that making a deadline leads Wallace Benton to cross the line.

Hmm...by the same token, Perhaps Dr. Stone ("Diagnosis Murder") should stick to medicine rather than solve his son, the homicide detective's murder investigations. Or perhaps Perry Mason shouldn't have to do Lt. Tragg's work, otherwise there would be over 100 people wrongly convicted of murder in LA alond. Or, perhaps, writers of murder mysteries shouldn't be solving murders either, with a murder rate of 1 per 100 residents in her small town.

You get the drift.

An enjoyable show, essentially a murder whodunnit with a journalist taking the place of a homicide detective. Enjoyable, but how much more captivating would it be if it was about a journalist fighting the battles and unraveling the stories that serious investigative reporters actually do tackle? As it is, the theme of the Pulitzer prize winning journalist who for some reason is doing nothing but the homicide beat instead of covering the big stories of public corruption, etc just doesn't ring true.

There are no more seasons. Only 13 episodes were shot and then the show was canceled. As it was, the network aired the last few episodes as "filler" and not in a regular time slot. Deadline is yet-another very good show that was thrown in the network dumpster without being given half a chance. Fortunately, we've got all these "reality" shows instead. Gag. Retch. Barf.

this is a great series. I have been having a hard time finding this on DVD. I am happy to see this on Hulu.
