It lacks the depth of season one.
One thing I appreciated so much about the contractors in S1 was the poignancy of their contracts. The advantages gained from every power had a weirdly just obeisance: the euphoria of flight vs the pain of breaking fingers, the time saved teleporting vs the time lost carefully arranging stones, the ability to rip apart people's insides only to be emotionally torn apart afterwards. There was a bizarre, creative justice to all their powers that I think is missing in S2.
That, and S2 leaves a bad taste in your mouth. DtB has always been a dark show (you could even say it's...DARKER THAN BLACK [ha! ha!]), but the ending seems so relentlessly cruel, and so arbitrary and meaningless, that you don't feel rewarded for all the pain.
Beyond that, the transvestite dad and his son were just incredibly annoying characters (nothing to do with the transvestitism, I just didn't care what happened to them).
Finally: DtB ended on such a definitive note, was a continued story really necessary? As much as I love DtB (it is without a doubt my favorite anime), I was pleased as punch with the show's coda, and didn't really need to see more. That being said, bring on Season 3, in the hopes it makes for a better year of television than this one.
