Crime Squad

(Cont of above review) All of the characters are relatable in some way and their backstories/personalities are all real, fleshed out and emotional. The way the plot ties all of these characters together is a bit unbelievable but of course it makes sense that their lives are all tied together in this manner. Song Ilguk (Det. Park) is easily relatable as the father who carries an incredible pain over his daughter's death to the point he will stop at nothing to understand the reasons why his daughter had to die.Lee Jonghyeok (Commander Jeong Ildo) plays a stoic man who seems to have no regrets and has little empathy as the man whom indirectly caused the death of Park's daughter, but who in reality carries a heavy burden because of it.Song Jihyo and Seong Jiru all play excellent supporting roles and add liveliness and freshness to an otherwise heavy plot. Park Seonyeong is passable. I thoroughly enjoyed how the episodes where not centered around a 'murder of the week' as is formulaic in procedurals. Instead, a crime takes the span of several episodes and become relevant to the plot. The true gem hides in how Park and Jeong interact, the tension that is always present. The "plot twist" at the end was great. Even though I secretly hoped it would be that way, I didn't really know it would actually happen until it was revealed. It was one of those moments where throughout the show you're yelling at that character "Why don't you just say something to him? Tell him!" and in the end you find out, that character actually did! It's a thing in K-dramas you rarely see, as people tend to keep things to themselves and just make things incredibly worse than they were to begin with! I'm so happy it was not so here. Watch, you'll be happy you did.
