Everyone has their favorite Paul Newman movie.
Mine is Slapshot. Paul played Reggie "Reg" Dunlop. manager of the worst hockey team in the league trying to keep the team and his job alive by turnning a bunch of "misfits" (like the Hanson brothers)into winners. In the end, his efforts are wasted as the owner, a cold=hearted wench if there ever was one, only cares about the team as a "tax write-off."
Paul was a incredible human being. The warmth and caringness comes through his baby blue eyes asdoes his penetrating stare. When Paul studies another character in a film, you can see what he's thinking in his blue eyes. Now that's acting. Acting without even acting or saying a word.
His best films (Cat and Someone Up There) are perhaps not our favorites (like Hombre, The Sting and Cool Hand Luke).
His humanitarian projects are well known and was his love of food and racing. We were just getting to know and love this wonderful man when he was taken from us. If there's a racetrac and pool table in heven, that's where we'll find Paul.
