I've got to admit, I don't really have a taste for reality shows (although SciFi tends to have interesting ones), but in my opinion this show, as well as Estate of Panic, aren't really reality shows. At least not in the sense of Survivor, or Real World. This is a game show - better yet, it's just like the old Nickelodeon game shows but without the boring trivia.
It's fun to see these people introduced, get a little blurb describing themselves, and then watch them try to survive. You can pick favorites, or least favorites, or just watch how it all turns out, and it's always exciting at the end, knowing that the people who are left have been running around for an hour, sometimes working together, but only one will win. Speaking of which, it's also fun to watch them interact with each-other, talk behind each-others' backs, and see how long alliances last. There's a few issues, of course, that one could complain about. The editing, particularly with the hunters, is kind of silly since we know they're just paid actors/athletes, but personally, I enjoy the silliness. It adds to the "Nickelodeon Arcade but with grown-ups" feel (speaking of which, first live-action video game? Please). I've only watched the first two episodes, but so far the flags have been of minimal importance... I think I've only seen one picked up in each episode. Someone in the discussion section suggested the early, low-stress period is for the contestants to pick up flags, which would be a good idea if they did so. Maybe Trey Farley should suggest that use of time to them? Although it's nice to have a period to get a feel for the contestant's personalities, the first half of the show is pretty slow, with everyone running back and forth from nothing, or just hiding. On the other hand, at the end of the second episode they stopped having a timer up. Was it because they hacked together too much footage of very different times? Regardless, it would be nice to know if they've got 20, or 10, or 5 minutes left. Another confusing point, and it's probably just a personal niggle, is the running money counter. The only way to get any money is by getting to the exit point at the end, and at that point the timer is run up so they get the full amount. So what's the point? There's a fairly elaborate system to counting up just how much money is "earned" but it's still going to be nothing for losing, or $25,000 plus $1,000 per flag for winning. I can only assume it's to create more tension, but it feels kind of stupid. The hunter "specialties" also seem a bit useless, but I guess they're interesting to know (I've never seen a situation where a hunter is required to sneak around, jump across or over anything, or free-run). All that said, the negatives are mostly nitpicks. The show is fun to watch from beginning to end, especially if you're the type to pick people to cheer for or boo at (I tend to roll my eyes every time someone says "I'm going to win because I'm smarter" and assumes everyone else is stupid, or worse "I'm so smart, I'm going to win because everyone will underestimate me" - both signs that they have no real advantages but want to sound smart - but enough about my tastes!). Plus, the different game "boards" can greatly change potential strategies, like how the harbour had lots of hiding places but the streets were mostly closed off, while the gardens were full of open paths and no good hiding places. All this makes the show fun to watch every time, with new runners and new locations. And remember! If you get on this show, don't just say "I'm gonna outsmart these guys" because you sound like an arrogant jerk - if you're so strategic, just share your strategy, otherwise kindly STFU :) Was this review helpful?

Normally I ***hate*** reality TV shows with a passion, but SciFi has managed to produce its second view-worthy reality production. I really enjoyed "Who Wants to be a Superhero?" and when I heard they had come up with this one, I was curious. "The Running Man" meets "Matrix"--this show was long overdue. Reality shows on the other networks don't bring out enjoyable fun, positive emotion, and cheering for all the competitors like Cha$e and Superhero do. I'm glad to have another family-friendly, intelligent show to watch that really does feel genuine instead of scripted, divisionist, and hate-based like the other networks' "reality" shows. I'd much rather be eliminated by an agent, by my own hand, or by chance than to have some elitist, bigoted jerks vote me off because I didn't screw one of them, my chest or butt wasn't perky enough, I was too old, I had morals, or I wasn't the right color.

Does this show deserve a Hulu Award?
Chase is a high octane reality show that tries to bring a simulated video game experience to life. The idea is that 10 players enter a game board, which might be a several-block section of a warehouse district. They have to grab up tags representing cash prizes, and be the first to exit the safe door, which opens 60 minutes later. Clues direct them to prizes and pitfalls around the board. Only the first person to safely leave the gameboard gets to keep their cash. The catch is that there are some enemies on the board, a group of suited "hunters" who can eliminate players just by touching them. So it amounts to a grand, crazy game of tag that is probably exhilirating to play. I also found it to be very watchable, despite some less than ideal camera work.
