Building Green

I am extremely dissappointed in this series. I thought at the beginning - WOW, a strawbale house, boy was I mislead. Yes, it is, mostly filled in with strawbales, but... I thought this would be an informative, build-it-yourself helper. Most of the info that is useful to me is under the heading of "building extreme" and glossed over. What this series turns out to be is far from the everyday, ordinary person's helper. It is, in fact, a very high tech, ritzy, state-of-the-art, showy home that utilized expensive, complicated gadgetry that most people can't afford and won't hire someone to install. Again, very dissappointed.

</quote>Very simple John, they took the responsible route to lessen the environmental impact that building a 4000 sq ft house would have put on the environment and echo system. Sure they could have (and the host even says so in the final show) built a smaller house but that still doesn't change the fact that the house they built has a smaller ecological footprint than 80% of homes that are a quarter its size. That alone should be a testament to how building green regardless of the size of the building can help the environment.The fundamental teachings that this show has to offer are invaluable to someone who is wanting to learn more about alternatives when building green. I watched a few episodes of this show when it first aired back in 2006 and I have since taken several of those ideas and have incorporated them into my own house. Primarily the home automation and water conservation that they covered. Just by making those two modifications to my home I have decreased my yearly water and electricity bills by 20%.I highly recommend this show to anyone wanting to gain more information on not only building green but living green as many of the teachings can be incorporated into existing homes.Ryan
