A 50+ year old High School chemistry teacher has a son that has cerable paulsy, his wife discovers that she is pregnant, he get's lung cancer and to top it off, his health insurance doesn't cover Chemotherapy Treatments! Talk about making an honest man run afoul of the law. Unfortunately this is something that could happen in real life. It is the basis for the show.
Walter realizing his teachers salery just will not cover his lifes unexpected expenses, accidentally runs across one of his old students while riding along with his brother-in-law hank, who happens to be a DEA agent, on a DEA drug bust. After realizing he knows the kid that got away, he looks him up in order to find out if he would like to work with Walt making and selling crystal methadrine.
They buy a used motorhome and head off into the New Mexico desert in order to manufacture their crystal meth in seclusion. Walt being a chemistry teacher uses his scientific knowledge to manufacture the puerest crystal meth anyone has ever seen making his product highly sought after by both drug dealers and the DEA which his brother-in-law heads up in the Albuquerque field office.
The show also shows how a person who is at first a law abiding citizen slowly but surely becomes seduced by the dark side of the drug underworld and culture while trying to keep up appearances in his home life. Walt who would have never thought about doing certain things starts finding it more and more easy to become someone else while taking on his persona as a drug kingpin.
As I said before, this is a story line that has the potential in todays times to become a reality, with all the job loss, insurance companies cancelling policies of those that make claims and the high cost of medical care. It could happen to anyone.
Deffinitly the best show on television. Season 3 should be here by jan. of 2010
