Its hard to find a good Anime that does not have cusswords or tons of sexual references. This one almost makes it. If you turn a blind eye to the hints of a lesbian romance you can think of it as two best friends....except in the part where the girl asks it outright, very small clip. Other than that clean anime.

Blue Drop is an excellent story of star-crossed lovers tragically bound by a dark science fiction setting. The tale brings together a young human student struggling with inner conflict stemming from the survival of a bizarre accident and a alien starship commander engaged in an observational task as a prelude to a hostile invasion of Earth. Each is required to sacrifice much of themselves in order to sustain the emotional bond forged through coming to know and love the other. The young girl must learn to forgive and the commander must rise against her own people. Only acceptance and compassion stand as a fragile respite for their love against time and fate. Their story mixes slice-of-life elements with an engrossing science fiction background. Life at the human student's girls school offers a sense of normality that contrasts the commander's grim knowledge of humanity’s impending subjugation. While the exchange between characters at the school develops many character relationships, the science fiction background drives much of the plot. The normalcy of school life contrasts against an abnormal plot, forcing conflicting genres to artfully play off one another, in order to tell an emotionally romantic story with tragic currents abound. The two heroine protagonists constantly struggle against a reality that cannot bear their existence. Visually, this series is more than equals any other anime with a high production value. Considering the amount of science fiction content, this is an impressive feet for a collection that is at its heart a girls-love romance. It blends traditional animation with 3D modeling to give the mechanical designs a sense of futuristic flare and distinctive look. Blue Drop's combat animations are as impressive as anything orchestrated within Gurren Lagann or Macross Frontier, albeit shorter in length and scope. The breathtaking military conflict between Blue, the commander's ship, and her adversaries is a sight to enjoyably behold. Overall, the combination of a strong plot, tragic theme and excellent animation quality make this science fiction girls-love romance a must for any fan of mecha, slice-of-life, or yuri works. Whether it's a mecha fan who learns how to cry at a heartwarming emotional romance or a slice-of-life fan that learns how to love strong and imaginative mechanical designs, Blue Drop offers something enjoyable for anime fans of many different genres.
