There's already a woman (some one cite this for me? I'm quite lazy atm) who's a paraplegic and has a motor cortex extension implanted in her brain, and through a socket in her forhead, a blutooth transmitter can be plugged in and allows her to operate her wheelchair or a computer cursor... so we are getting pretty close to that Arthur C Clark/Isaac Asimov/Lary Niven edge!
