I write this kind of stuff and this series was great. While I found it sometimes difficult to sit throughout some of the episodes which dealt with the deeper parts of subplots it is by far one of the best done sic fi stories out there.
They did a great job of reworking the old series and the ending episode was over the top.
Even my sister who is not into sci fi nor her husband watched all the episodes and enjoyed it very much.
Could it have been better, I can't see how.
I look forward to the prequel series that I hear is in the pipeline, to see how they did.the only complaint I had was bringing Richard Hatch aboard to play a villain. He hated and trashed the show initially because it wasn't his and he wasn't at the center. I'd have left him standing on the sidelines where he belonged
