Basilisk

In European bestiaries and legends, a basilisk (English pronunciation: /ˈbæzɪlɪsk/,[1] from the Greek βασιλίσκος basilískos, "little king;" Latin Regulus) is a legendary reptile reputed to be king of serpents and said to have the power to cause death with a single glance.It makes perfect sense why the show is titled this. That being said, this show is great but it's so hardcore it makes you think. I wonder how many ninja clans actually exterminated each other all of those years ago. It's unbearably sad and dark at some points, and it (the show) leaves you thinking for days about the brutality of the ninja. The raping was the hardest to watch, but the story was great. I won't watch it again because of the raping, but it sticks with you like a good anime should.

I love the story! I love the action! I really suggest this show to anyone.
If anyone wants to know what this show is about, I would just say, "Two clans, both alike in dignity..."

Do you like Romeo and Juliet? Do you think Romeo and Juliet would have been totally sweet if everybody was ninjas with superpowers? You now know whether you will like Basilisk, queue up the first episode or close your browser now......What do you mean thats not a real review? Ok fine. Basilisk is a finely tuned blood bath that delivers on most fronts. Strong animation, scoring, dialogue, and design make for an eminently watchable action drama. The main problem with the show is that its plot is not terribly strong for something copying Shakespeare. It wastes a lot of time with meandering exposition, flashbacks, and subplots featuring its hit or miss supporting cast. The problem isn't so much that these guys are undeveloped, but rather that the show tries to develop them at all while keeping up its whedon-esque mortality rate for major characters. If you're mainly here for the fight scenes (which are, by the way, excellent) you're not going to care much, but those wanting something deeper will be slightly disappointed. Even still, you could do far worse with your time. And really after taking a look at the picture on the box what else were you expecting?

The plot is solid, and I really do like how they do the ninja battles. It makes all of the characters seem much more valuable when you really don't know when they're gonna die. This shows the war between two clans, neither of which is really "good" or "evil", they're just both so human. It's not like all of the generic stereotypes of good vs evil and all of the fighting is pretty and cool. The battles are always desperate and brutal, both sides using grotesquely unnatural looking special abilities. I love it. The gravity you feel off of their zero sum game is really intense.

I love this show its kinda a ninja spin on the old tale of romeo and juliet.
