Has anyone read the Astro Boy description?
Japanese Animated series which tells the tale of a permanently youthful robot boy modeled after the deceased son of a research scientist. Originally intended to be kept a secret, the Pinocchio-like character becomes a publicly renowned superhero -- complete with devices like laser-firing fingers, uncanny hearing, and jet-powered boots -- all eventually used to repulse an alien invasion of Earth.
Japanese animated ... nothing gets by the reviewer.
Permanently youthful robot boy ... has this story lasted too long already? Although It would be funny to see Astro to go through puberty, along with his friends. Carrying his books in front of his waist, using his x-ray vision ... never mind.
... robot boy modeled after the deceased son of a research scientist. ... research scientist? Wasn't Dr. Tenma the head of the Ministry of Science? My bad!
Originally intended to keep a secret ... ummm ... no, the creator wanted Astro ... ummmm Tobio (sp?) to be found and wanted ... Tobio ... ummm ... Astro to become the strongest and also leader robot. It was not until Dr Tenma (the creator) failed to become a robot (and robot leader) that he tried to keep Astro ... ummm ... Tobio to himself. WHEW!
... the Pinocchio-like character ... Pinocchio never really entered my mind, but now come to think of it, it does have a Pinocchioesque storyline. Proving that there is no such thing as an original story anymore. Just a different take on the same old storyline.
... becomes a publicly renowned superhero -- complete with devices like laser-firing fingers, uncanny hearing, and jet-powered boots ... BOOTS? Astro has Rocket arms & legs. The boots are merely a fac'ade (pardon my french) to make him look a little more human.
... all eventually used to repulse an alien invasion of Earth. ... UMMM ... What episode was there an alien invasion???? Must have slept through that one! The ending involved some jaded robots, not trusting that humans would ever treat them respectfully decided to leave earth in search for a new home to live in peace. Which is a load of crap... they were designed to serve humans, and thus will forever feel a void in their lives if they were to be separated from humankind.
The one thing that I detest, is the tendency to overlay human emotions onto other characters, which have their own strengths & weaknesses. Like having Vulcan's laugh, or Klingon's being thoughtful. The thought of Klingon's making anything is ludicrous. They should have been portrayed as a bunch of thugs stealing any weapon, and ship from whoever they can... OOPS wrong series.
Back to this show. The reality is that the machines, in-line with their programming, would be glad that the humans attacked them, and not other humans.
