I just bought Volume 1 of the Astonishing X-Men seies and I was flipping through the first chapter and what you see in this video is what you get in the book. I was very impressed. It's an excellent translation from one medium to the next. And it doesn't hurt that it's really cool stuff, too.

As far as motion comics go, I've never seen one quite like this. The facial morphing and movie appendages was distracting at first, but all in all I think they did a very good job with it. Not to mention that this comic mini-series is absolutely breath-taking anyway. When I first saw this available here, my jaw dropped. I had no idea they were making an 'Astonishing' motion comic. Excellent choice!
Although, I am really wondering what is up with the availability. I watched the first episode maybe a week ago, and then yesterday I watched episode 4 (where were 2 and 3?) and now even episode 4 is gone. I can only assume that this means that their contractual obligations stipulate very limited availability windows. So does that mean that there is somewhere else we can watch these online? Or are we going to have to wait and purchase them on DVD/BD? Because I don't think I'd be willing to spend any substantial amount of money on a Motion Comic. Especially since I already own most of the actual comic mini-series in print form.

I haven't seen artwork of this quality in years. Plus, it is slightly in motion! I am addicted off the first episode. I can't wait to see further installments. I think this could revamp the American standard of lazy, unattractive animations. This is pure art! How can i see more?

I love the idea of motion comics (just got done with Spider-Woman and after a slow start it turned out WAY better than I thought it could be), but the Marvel producers need to go easy on the facial morphing effects in future installments of X-men, and let the artwork stand up for itself. I just watched a fan-made motion comic on Youtube, with NO animation fx, and good voice-talent and a few pan-and-scans worked just fine. Why? Because it was a cool story with beautiful imagery. But because the mutants are more high-profile than spider-gal (and because they're still finding their sea-legs) they're trying to push the "new" art as far as they can. Honestly, it would work better without all the melting faces distracting you from the story.
Story is great btw- love the way Whedon writes dialogue, and the actors and music are finding their stride and bringing the characters to life. So overall, mushy faces or not, these characters will always cool. On a side note, I wish they'd cut Scott Summers a break and make him more likable like Clark Kent. It can't be easy to take the lead during tough times, trying to maintain an air of "positivity" when you're surrounded by cynics, whiners, and quitters. So as much as I like Logan's tough-guy schtick, I'd still stand up for Cyclops any day. To me, these two could be Marvel's Finest, but modern writers tend to make Scott a basket case in favor of Mr. "snickety-snickt". I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Whedon's story eventually shows Logan and Scott giving each other the same props that Bruce and Clark give Superman/Batman. The X-men movies solved the problem by killing Scott off and having Logan grow a heart. Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer Mr. Snickety the way he is. Just want the old Cyclops back.

ive been hoping for a more adult x men show scince i was 16 this is good the 3d effects suck but what ever its still x men

Anyone remember Clutch Cargo from the 50's? Yep, not much progress made with this series. Terrible.

A lot of people aren't giving this type of animation a chance,probably due to other animation being more intensive. Motion Comics is just adding an extra dimension to the comic books by adding a little motion and a voice cast. The first Marvel Cartoons did just this and they were hugely popular.
For me, an owner and reader of the original comic, I think that it was great and that they aren't trimming story out of it by rushing through to the end of the first issue. The voice cast gives an extra dimension to the presentation as well as the sound effects. I am also a fan of the audio dramas (like the Shadow, and DC Comics efforts with their comics and novels) so this, to me, is just another step.
Can't wait to see the other episodes and more motion comics.
