When I was 10 years old, my brother gave me a stack of comics and stopped collecting them himself. Among them was an issue of Uncanny X-Men. I wasn't familiar with the characters or the storyline. But when I read the story, it was just cool. Astonishing X-Men is written in the spirit of the 1980s, before the X-Men gained commercial fame and there was only one series. This isn't for kids, and if you were a fan of the X-Men from the 1980s to the early 1990s (before females in comics turned into objects for little boys), this series will appeal to you. Since the story is written so well, I'm not surprised it was canned. Joss Whedon shows off his knowledge and love of the characters in this short run.
