@harley dear - Not true. Otaku is like the basement geek; doesn't shower, absolutely no social life whatsoever. Why can't you people just get over terms you don't truly know and call yourselves "anime fans" and be done with it?

This is one of many reasons why Americans are actually looked down upon when traveling to other countries. This guy has no idea what the term "otaku" truly means nor the way actual otakus are in Japan, NOR the fact that being an otaku is generally a bad thing in Japanese society. He's just using this show to scoop in what more he can before he goes completely out of business with Tokyopop's shutdown.

@ The Xenos - hmm.. the conversational/social translation and usage is not necessarily negative. It's like saying "he's an video game-wh-re" when stating that video games are someone's obsession. Otaku does not indicate an obsession with something dangerous, dishonorable or deadly. Channers have certainly twisted it over time, but in reality otaku isn't any worse than someone saying they are a "fanboy", "geek", "admirer" or "junkie". Otaku wasn't created to be negative and therefore, anime fans have latched onto it because THAT IS what it means - someone's whose obsession and joy is found within Anime, Manga, primarily. :)

FYI - The word otaku is just as negative a term as the recent internet coined weeaboo. I honestly don't get why anime fans have latched onto the term without knowing the history. Weeaboo is a step up. Heck, I remember that whole weeaboo term started. It was a joke word filter swap for the Japanophile nick name Wapanese.

I'm kind of glad Tokyopop shut down.

This show kind of turned out to be Stu Levy's final hurrah as he ran around the country.

I wasn't sure what to make of this show at first considering some of the major mistakes that Tokyo Pop has made in the past (Like dropping Shutterbox DX ) but once I started watching I became instantly addicted!

I love the use of fans trying to find fans, I love finding out the "Otaku Hot Spots". As a geek myself this show is entertaining and very insightful! Its great getting see fans that a lot of the people I know would be labeled as "weeaboos" being shown in a better light rather then spastic fans. Even in the anime con culture there are people who look at fellow Otaku like they're freaks.

I gotta admit... yeah... A number of us geeks are a few steps away from being on that Hoarders show. Lord knows I'm in a constant struggle to not become one of those people. Though really the ones here had some design sense. Is it really that different from someone showing off their Red Sox of Green Bay Packers filled rooms?
