Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_full Great show - but lost without Pete
I was just a kid when this show originally aired, but I had such a crush on Pete Duel. I was devistated when he was replaced and I didn't learn of his suicide until several years later. The show was never the same with Roger Davis in the role; and they never even offered an explanation. Thank you Hulu; I hope to see season 2 soon.

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_empty My favorite western
The interplay between Ben Murphy and Pete Duel made this show work. They came across as friends with the type of chemistry we all see in our best relationships. No other western did the tongue in cheek as well or as consistently.

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_full Great Show
I may be young but i loved watching this show on TV Land when it was on, one of my favorite in the western genre, type of show that reaches beyond its own era.

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_emptyRating_empty Not too bad
The problem I had with this show was it was such a blatant rip-off of Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. TV shows were known for being INSPIRED by theatrical films like Taxi inspired by the film Taxi Driver, but inspired and copy-catting are 2 different things.

Oh sure, M*A*S*H* was inspired by the novel and film, but at least they carried on the format in a TV setting with the same title and characters and made no bones about it. Plus M*A*S*H* had the weight of the Vietnam war to keep it topical.

Alias, of course, had the difficulty of dealing with Butch and Sundance killed in the movie so they certainly couldn't carry on with the premise. So they just made-up different names, that's all. Even at 14, it just didn't really gell with me.

Still, the show had some good moments even though I watched only a handful of them. And it was sad about Peter. He DID have good leading-man qualities, even on Love on a Rooftop, remember that one?

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_full I knew Pete.
In 1970-71 I played in a superclub group called The Entourage. Our singer was Pam Deuel, sister of Pete anf Geoff. Pete came to see us play in Santa Clara and in Stockton, CA. Our drummer, Don Fanning, was Pete's roommate in college.

Pete joined Don and me at a buffet restaurant in Stockton. At first no one recognized him. He hadn't shaved and was wearing glasses. A girl about 4 or 5 came up and asked if he was Hannibal Hayes. Pete smiled, saying yes and signed an autograph for her. As she left, he looked at us and said, "That's what it's all about... when they remember your character's name."

He was a true gentleman and it saddened me greatly when he took his own life. But I now understand why having lost another friend later to suicide.

Rest well Pete, rest well.

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_full I'm glad I'm not the only one
Who misses Pete Duel, even after all these years. I hope they put up the 2nd season. I'll watch that until Pete's last episode at least. I don't know who ruined the show more, Pete by killing himself, or Roger Davis.

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_full One of my favorites way back when
At least when Pete Duel (he legally changed the spelling from Deuel) was Hannibal Heyes.. Roger Davis just couldn't cut it in the role, I kept seeing the character he played on Dark Shadows.. "Jeff Clark".. Would have been better if they could have gotten Geoff Deuel (Pete Duel's brother) to step into the role.. He looked very much like his brother and had much of the same personality and mannerisms...
