Historically, yes zombies were the undead who feasted on living people. But that definition of zombies has changed in the media. Movies wanted to explain how a zombie apocalypse could occur, and they wanted to do it more or less with a reasonable scientific explanation. Hence you have films like Resident Evil and 28 Days. The most important aspect of zombies is that they are people who want to eat human flesh. Yes, when you first hear the words zombie, the undead comes to mind, but in hollywood zombies don't necessarily have to be undead, there just has to be cannibalism which somehow spreads. In law there is a difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. The letter of law refers to a literal interpretation of the law. i.e. zombies as undead. The spirit of the law follows the intent of the law, and does not necessarily adhere to literal wording of the law. i.e. 28 days later zombies.tl;dr Just accept that definitions can change, thats how language evolves and 28 Days Later was cleary made as a zombie movie even if they aren't dead people.
